Our St Austell office, alongside the St Austell JCP, are currently leading the way on a new national initiative that aims to help unemployed 17-24 year olds into work. During the Mentoring Circles initiative, a young person (mentees) is matched with an inspirational employer (mentors) from the local area!
Yesterday marked the start of week two of the pilot – where mentees visited employer premises for a tour of their business. This was then followed by a 1-2-1 with their mentor –where the young persons were given a chance to discuss interview skills and techniques.
Here are some pictures of a few of our mentees getting involved with their respective employers on the day!
Ash visited TT Combat and had the opportunity to try out several different aspects of the business, ranging from photography in the second hand department through to laser operation and packing on the main floor.
White River Place
Nason visited the team at White River Place to discover what it took to keep a busy shopping centre running. Nason also gave us some very encouraging feedback about his experience being on Mentoring Circles so far:
“My mentors are really competent and I believe that they will guide me along the path that is right for me. My experience with Work Routes has been great and I have liked the efficient and personalised approach. The careers guidance has been also been really helpful and everything promised has been delivered quickly.” Nason
Liam visited the Army local army recruitment site and had a chance to look at all they had to offer.
It’s great to see young people working alongside local employers and getting enthusiastic about entering the world of work. We’re looking forward to seeing how the young people develop in the remaining few weeks of Mentoring Circles.
