Business start-up – Kacey’s story

Kacey heard about Work Routes through her Work Coach at Jobcentre Plus, as she was keen to get back into work, but struggled with self-confidence and social anxiety.

During her initial appointment she met with Employment Adviser, Stephanie, who got to know her situation and career goals for the future. After discussing in-house courses, Stephanie enrolled Kacey onto multiple sessions that focused on the areas Kacey felt she needed to upskill.

Kacey shared: “After several months of feeling like I had hit a brick wall, I was welcomed by Stephanie and the team and reassured in an environment where there was no pressure or expectations.”

On completion of the courses Kacey, was able to manage anxiety, boost her confidence, and improve her interview skills and job sector knowledge.

Work Routes offer in-house courses that help participants to upskill in the necessary areas required for the jobs they want.

Kacey was keen to start her own business as a nail technician, but didn’t know where to begin. Stephanie took this into consideration, and assessed the funding required by looking at suitable courses together and the equipment that would be needed.

At Kacey’s next appointment, Stephanie explained that they could fund her nail courses, business insurance, and the equipment needed to start working mobile.

Stephanie told us: “Kacey was over the moon and was taken back by the support we had provided. As she was starting out to work mobile, we were also able to purchase a mobile carry case. She is a true inspiration for many and has turned her life around.”

Like Kacey, we can support participants financially on their transition into work, with clothing, travel costs and equipment. The support from Work Routes doesn’t stop once the participant starts employment, as we offer support for the first six months of their new job.

“When I gave a brief overview of my situation and possible future plans, my Employment Adviser knew that I didn’t just want a job, I wanted a career. For the first time, I felt I was truly listened to and understood. Whilst with Work Routes, I’ve received support with my mental health, sleep, and employability skills.

“I am now about to grow my own business, and I feel very prepared for the future. I am feeling the happiest I’ve been in a long time.

“I would recommend this programme to anyone. This service is proof that even when you think you know how to help yourself get into work, there’s always something extra to push you a step further and build confidence within.”
