A job that suits – Amy’s story

Amy had left her previous job due to health issues and joined Work Routes for support in finding a more suitable job that worked for her.

At Amy’s first appointment, she met with her Employment Adviser, Anne Marie, who took time in getting to know her and her personal circumstances around her health, family and the type of roles that would work best for her.

Our Employment Advisers are on hand to assist with applications and childcare resources, and our Better Off Calculator provides an insight into potential earnings whilst working full and part-time hours.

Anne Marie identified Amy’s anxieties around social integration and crowds, and together they agreed that enrolling onto in-house courses would benefit and help her with these barriers. As a single parent, Amy’s main concern around finding work was finding something that coincides with childcare and school hours. Together, with Anne Marie they identified her childcare entitlement through government and how this would support her at work.

“Amy has worked on identifying her career goals and building a strong foundation for her future. By completing several of our skills sessions, Amy has not only focused on things like CV writing, application forms, job goals and interview preparation, but she has improved confidence within herself and in social settings. Amy has pushed herself out of her comfort zone by joining group sessions and meeting new people, working as team and independently.”

Work Routes offer free in-house courses that support with all areas of employability skills and can provide funding for external sector specific courses to give participants the confidence and skills required to reach their job goals and finding sustainable work.

Following the Work Routes employability sessions, Amy felt ready to explore new job opportunities, and with her new CV, she worked with Anne Marie to apply for roles. Keeping in line with her previous experiences of working in schools, Amy chose to apply for similar roles, and it wasn’t long before she was invited to interview.

“Thanks to Amy’s hard work and commitment, she was offered a supervisor role at a local school. This marks a significant step in her long-term goal of becoming a teaching assistant and whilst we continue to work with Amy to ensure her transition back into work is smooth, we are preparing her for future targets to reach her career goal.” Said Anne Marie.

During an in-work support call, Amy shared: “As a mum, I feel so happy. I found it challenging to get to where I am right now, and thanks to Work Routes, I have found a great balance for my family.”
